* * * Bringing Up Ziggy can be hard to find but I have plenty of copies for sale. I hope to bring it out again in paperback because of the continuing response. Ziggy is my foster kid, actually, she is a capuchin monkey. She is currently at Helping Hands, a non-profit organization that trains monkeys to be helpers to quadriplegics—individuals confined to a wheelchair who cannot move their arms or legs, hence the prefix "quadri." I got Ziggy when she was five weeks old so she believes I am her mother. The book is about our nearly thirteen years together, and what I've learned about life from a primate. It's also about a family's adjustments to living with a different species.
* * * Rights of the Accused is my second book for Chelsea House Publishers in their "Crime, Justice, and Punishment" series. If someone is accused of a crime they have certain and specific constitutional rights. For example, police must abide by a distinct set of rules and procedure if they want to enter your home for a search. Your rights to privacy are protected by our Fourth Amendment's right for a proper search and seizure. Law enforcement must produce a search warrant, issued by a neutral magistrate, and based on "probable cause." If the papers are nonexistent or invalid, any evidence collected is inadmissible in court. And, of course, there are always exceptions, but that is for the book.
 * * * My first book for Chelsea House is called Forensic Science: Evidence, Clues and Investigation. Basically, it is from the time police are first alerted to the scene of a crime, who takes what evidence, and what they do with it. My background in criminal justice helped me tremendously in the Rights book, and my experience with fellow forensic scientists is an invaluable part of this one.
